Make a Junk Journal

Here’s a peek into my process of how to make a junk journal, specifically for #junkjournaljanuary this time around. It’s super easy to do!

Make a Junk Journal - video of process by tortagialla.com

This year, I decided to join in with the Instagram challenge #junkjournaljanuary and made this quick journal for this particular challenge. I’ve used a mix of papers from my stash, magazine pages from Flow Magazine and the cover is an old handmade pocket journal from the past.  Check out my process and thoughts in the video below.

If you don’t already know about junk journals, I highly suggest you try it out! It’s an easy and fun way to get creative, but without all the pressure of art journaling that often has drawing or painting associated with it. Technically, you can do anything in your junk journal, but at it’s simplest, you can just collage and mix and match papers and vintage items for a very cool look.

I’m just getting into junk journals lately because I’m short on time and find it super easy and satisfying to create in a junk journal. I’m excited to perhaps create more printables around this style… and if you are looking for the vintage style, check out my free vintage paper printable here and these vintage journaling cards here. They can help to give you a head start in your junk journal creations.

End of 2018 // Art Journalling Review

Art Journalling has been a blessing in disguise this past year. A place to express myself with marks, colors, images and journaling! I decided to take a look back on the many journals I have created. It’s a way to say goodbye to 2018 and welcome 2019 with open arms.

Do you like to art journal? How often do you actually look back at your old journals and flip through? It can be very satisfying to see what you have created, but also helps you to see your growth, your change, over time. I hope you enjoy and thank you for watching!

Blank Calendar Pages – FREE DOWNLOAD

Are you ready to get organized and fire up your planner game? Download these FREE blank calendar pages that give you structure but also flexibility.

Are you ready to get organized and fire up your planner game? Download these FREE blank calendar pages that give you structure but also flexibility.

Each of us leads a very different lifestyle, so we have to customize our calendars and planning styles accordingly. A blank slate will give you flexibility, but still start you off with a barebones structure. That’s exactly the kind of thing I like – freedom to do what I want, but some guidance to start with!

Since I love to use printables, I’ve created a couple sets of printable calendars for the next evolution of my planning. I love how digital printables enable me to constantly tweak my planning layouts. I’m always reviewing my planning habits and changing things, so that I can improve my productivity!

This year, I’ve come up with a new set of perpetual blank calendars to cater to my planning needs. They are all Monday start layouts, because I find that it make more sense with my schedule, grouping the weekend together for weekly and monthly views. Otherwise, they are blank so that I can fill in the details as I need and decorate (or not decorate) as I please.

This set of perpetual blank calendar pages includes:

  • DAILY PAGE
All 24 hours are noted, because I like to visually see the entire day and be able to track things, don’t forget sleep is important!
  • WEEKLY PAGE
There’s a box for every single day and habit tracker area plus notes list
  • MONTHLY CALENDAR
Includes enough rows to give each day it’s own box (I dislike squishing two days in one box at the end of the month on other calendar layouts)
  • YEARLY PAGE
It’s a year-long list format, so you can see the whole year at a glance and list birthdays or track habits. It’s also great for overview planning, blocking off with colored pens and highlighters.
  • This printable set includes both portrait as well as landscape layouts, so download your preference!

You can download ALL these printables for FREE and for personal use only. Yup, I’m offering them up for you in hopes that they might help you get organized and plan for success!

Ways to Wrap Gift Cards + Free Printable Stars Paper

Let me share a few ways to wrap gift cards for last minute gift giving plus free printable star patterned papers that you can print and use instantly!

free printable holiday stars patterned paper + ways to wrap gift card // tortagialla.com

As we get closer to Christmas day, gift cards make it easy to quickly check off your list, especially for hard to shop for friends. Are you are on the last-minute band wagon grabbing gift cards as a last resort? Or perhaps, you actually enjoy giving gift cards, because they allow you to show your gratitude without burdening people with another generic novelty gift item?

Personally, I really love the idea of gift cards if you don’t have a very specific gift in mind for your recipient. It gives THEM the power to choose what they truly would like and eliminates the random knick knacks and junk that ends up cluttering the house.

The problem is how to package up the gift card as an actual pretty gift.

You have to admit that it’s nice to unwrap an actual gift during the holidays. The element of surprise is always a delight. But even just the aesthetics of packaging up a gift, shows that you put effort into it. I think it’s nice to add a special handmade touch to gift card giving, so check out the ideas below for wrapping them up as gifts.

Even though gift cards are easy to pick up at the store and have pretty designs on them already, I still like to put them in a pretty envelope at the least. Or even better, is to package it in a pretty box or container that you can traditionally wrap up. The extra effort of packaging it up really does make the recipient feel special and loved. And for those who are making multiples for teachers or co-workers, it’s definitely a good idea to spruce up the gift cards with a handmade component.

Well, I love paper printables and the easiest way to package up a gift card is to put it in a small box and wrap it up like a traditional gift! Even wrapping up an envelope can be a nice idea, because there’s still that element of presenting a nicely wrapped gift with a ribbon on top.

So I designed a set of simple, elegant, printer-friendly holiday stars papers to share with you. They are easy to print at home, as many copies as you might need for wrapping up small items like gift cards.

Download the 12×12 inch printable PDFs below, in your preferred color and wrap away.

Grab these printable planner pages free instant downloads and create your own personal planner system because it's never too late to get organized! Download on tortagialla.com

I know we all have personal preferences when it comes to our very own planners. I’m certainly always searching for planner peace myself! One thing I’ve learned from trying different planners, systems and printables – is that you just have to actually USE whatever planner you choose. It doesn’t matter if it’s a printed hardbound planner, your own bullet journal or various printable sheets.

Sounds obvious, but the best planner is whatever planner you actually use!

Of course, we all have personal preferences, so that’s why there are so many options out there. You never know what might drive you to love your planner or perhaps to hate and abandon it instead. I think it’s important to try different things to see what really suits your life. It’s also important to note that our lifestyles change over time, so it’s not uncommon to have to tweak or change your system altogether.

Since I work primarily at my desk, I actually don’t need a bound planner to carry around. I find it more freeing to use loose sheets of paper. I think it’s because planning for me is about getting all the things out of my head and on paper. However, I rarely look back on weeks that have already passed. I’m totally done with them!

So I switched to printable planner pages that give me the ultimate flexibility without breaking the bank!

I’m able to try a variety of layouts and planning systems, creating my own printables… instead of spending on fancy planners that I might abandon after just a month of use. We all know how costly planners are these days, right? They are so trendy and the cost has just been going up and up. Granted, many are guidebooks with lots of other sections and advice, not just empty calendar pages.

However, for me personally, I’ve found that simplicity is the best.

I’ve created a straightforward monthly list page for important dates and a weekly planner sheet with a Monday start. There’s just enough room for a couple daily tasks or appointments on each day, plus a spot for dinner plans. Then there’s two lined lists at the bottom for this week to do’s and next week to do’s. That’s it!

I find it to be a time saver to not have to draw out my layouts week to week and because I get my creative fix of art and journaling in other places, I truly use these planner sheets for planning and that’s it. I certainly want something nice and neat to look at, but I don’t keep these pages for the rest of my life. I rarely look back at old pages honestly!

For now, I’ve settled upon these two planner pages that I use regularly. I wanted to share these printable planner pages as a free download, in hopes they might help you along your planner journey. I also made a video of how easy it is to setup for a new month.

Grab the free printable planner downloads below and feel free to share with others, linking back to this post. The PDF downloads are designed for LETTER page size, but you can easily print on A4 paper, which is what I do here in Europe.
